An honest first-visit guide

What City Hall Plaza is—and what to check first

A covered seasonal rink and event space in Apponaug, built for short outings rather than an all-day attraction. The key is knowing what is running on your date.

Make one last check. Sessions, activities and closures can change. Use the official Plaza website before you leave.

Think of the Plaza as one anchor for the day, then choose what—if anything—you want to add.

The short answer

Greenwood Credit Union City Hall Plaza sits beside Warwick’s civic center at 3275 Post Road. Its main feature is a covered 120-by-60-foot rink. In warmer months, that space has been used for roller skating and bumper cars; in winter, it changes over to ice. Community events occasionally take over the space.

That seasonal changeover is the source of most confusion. The facility can be open while your preferred activity is not in session. General hours are a useful boundary, not a guarantee that skating or bumper cars run continuously.

Who will enjoy it most?

Familiesespecially when one scheduled activity is enough
Casual meetupswhen you want a simple plan with food nearby
Local explorersusing Apponaug as the start of a longer outing

If you are expecting a large entertainment complex, reset the picture: this is a civic-scale gathering place. That is part of its appeal. You can skate, meet friends or catch an event without turning the entire day into a production.

General facility hours

The official Plaza site currently publishes these hours:

Monday–TuesdayClosed
Wednesday–FridayNoon–9 p.m.
Saturday10:30 a.m.–9:30 p.m.
Sunday11 a.m.–6:30 p.m.

Look for the activity’s session schedule in addition to these hours. In winter, the official ice page says sessions run in 90-minute blocks, but the next timetable has not yet been posted.

What the small print means in real life

  • The cover helps, but it is not a bubble. Wind, storms and maintenance can still matter.
  • Concessions are a convenience, not a meal plan. The booth is generally open except during some special events.
  • Bring a lock if you want a locker. The official visitor notice says patrons supply their own and remove belongings daily.
  • Card payments cost slightly more. The ice page currently notes a 3% credit-card fee.

Three outing shapes that work

One focused hour

Book or confirm a single activity, arrive early enough to handle rentals, and leave when the session ends. This is the best plan for younger children or a weeknight.

An Apponaug afternoon

Pair the Plaza with the Warwick Center for the Arts or a nearby meal. Keeping the geography tight makes the outing feel relaxed rather than over-scheduled.

A Warwick day

Use the Plaza as the indoor or high-energy part of the day, then drive to Rocky Point or Oakland Beach for air, water views and a slower finish.

We checked the official Plaza home and ice pages on October 9, 2026. This page separates general facility hours from activity sessions because the two are not interchangeable.
